Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine, a subspecialty of radiology, involves using small amounts of radioactive material – known as radiotracers – to create an image of the body for examining organ function.
The nuclear medicine specialists with Powers Health interpret these images to diagnose and treat disease.
Nuclear medicine often is used for the following reasons:
- Brain imaging
- Location of active GI bleeding
- Thyroid cancer treatment/ablation
- Y90 liver cancer treatment/therapy
- Cancer staging and monitoring of treatment
- Tumor location and effect of treatment
- Kidney, heart, lung, thyroid and gallbladder function
- Bone health
- Coronary artery flow
- Infection location
