Sleep Diagnostics
Sleep diagnostics, also known as sleep studies, take place during the day or night, depending on your sleep problems. They are painless and easy. During the tests, tiny monitors are placed on your scalp, face and legs with water-soluble paste and tape. You may also have some stretchy bands around your chest and stomach.
Our patient-friendly environment offers some of the latest in sleep technology provided by registered polysomnographic technologists, who are certified by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT).
The bedrooms at the Sleep Medicine Services of Powers Health have a full-sized bed, a flat-screen satellite television and a private bathroom so patients are comfortable during their stay with us.
Our sleep specialists will work closely with your referring physician to determine which tests you require.
Treatments
MULTIPLE SLEEP LATENCY TEST (MSLT)
Also called "nap studies," these tests are used to see how quickly you fall asleep in quiet times during the day. Nap studies usually consist of four or five nap opportunities of 15-20 minutes with breaks lasting for two hours in between nap attempts.
MAINTENANCE OF WAKEFULNESS TEST (MWT)
MWTs are day studies used to measure your ability to stay awake after a good night’s sleep. The MWT consists of four sleep periods with breaks lasting for two hours in between them. For each period, you will sit quietly in bed and try to stay awake for 20-40 minutes.
POLYSOMNOGRAPHY
A comprehensive recording of physiological changes and activities that occur during sleep.
