Clinical Team Leader and Registered Nurse

What is your role with Powers Health?
Clinical team leader (CTL) and registered nurse at Powers Health Rehabilitation Center on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
I like helping people. Before I was a nurse, I worked in other roles in healthcare, including at the front desk, in medical billing and as a medical technician. I discovered I enjoyed helping patients but wanted to do it in a larger, more encompassing role. I spoke with a physician I worked for at the time, and she recommended going to nursing school. We discussed all of the opportunities nursing school could offer.

What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day for me starts with getting report from the night charge nurses from each floor. From there, I prep for my day, which may include team staffing meetings, stroke coach meetings, teaching a stroke education class to patients and family members and a weekly CTL meeting. I contact discharged patients and their family members regarding their admission. I round on patients to check on how their stay is going. I respond to staff assists and code blues throughout the building. I help as an extra set of hands for nurses and nursing assistants who are working the floor.

How long have you been employed here?
I have been employed with Powers Health since October 2020.

What are some of the big changes you have experienced in this position?
This role is ever-evolving. My nurse manager, CNO and fellow CTL get together and brainstorm ways to adapt the role to help the rehabilitation center and the acute rehab unit run smoothly.

What are some of your interests outside of work?
I enjoy traveling, reading, thrifting, home design and spending quality time with my family.

What do you enjoy most about working at Powers Health?
The sense of belonging and teamwork makes working for Powers Health great. At the rehabilitation center, we have a smaller staff. Everyone knows everyone, and we have become a family. Staff members truly care for your well-being.
